An accidental release of hazardous substances can cause serious problems for people, property, and the environment. Companies using certain chemicals are required to take proactive steps to ensure safety. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requires these companies to implement and maintain a Risk Management Program (RMP) to manage potential risk. This plan must be put into action and kept up to date. Many measures that keep workers safe also help protect the environment and the people who live nearby.

This training is designed to help employers understand the EPA’s RMP Rule and what they must do to protect workers, the environment, and the community.

After completing this training, learners will be able to:

      • Explain key concepts of covered processes, determining threshold quantities, and program levels
      • Describe how to report and document components of the rule
      • Identify the required elements of the EPA’s Risk Management Program (RMP) Rule
      • Explain how to prevent an accidental release to the environment and avoid workers’ exposure to extremely hazardous, toxic, and flammable substances
