MVR Monitoring Service FAQs
What negative events do you monitor for?
expand_moreexpand_lessEvery state is different in what triggers a negative driving event. Most states trigger suspensions, revocations and convictions. Other triggers include status change, accidents, cancellations and withdrawals. We will report on all of the information monitored and provided by each state.
What states are included in this service?
expand_moreexpand_lessWe offer a 49-state (and District of Columbia) solution. New Hampshire does not offer a driver monitoring solution. We recommend that clients with drivers holding a New Hampshire driver's license run MVRs on a 30- or 90-day interval, which we can manage via our automated systems. This will ensure timely identification of any issues.
Do all my drivers need to be included in J. J. Keller's MVR Monitoring Service?
expand_moreexpand_lessYou can choose to have all or a subset of your drivers enrolled in this service. You might select a subset if you want to monitor activity for drivers in highly-regulated states or are operating a focused safety program.
How quickly will I receive notification of a negative event?
expand_moreexpand_lessAs soon as a negative event is processed by the state it is identified through the monitoring process. This triggers an MVR to be ordered and sent to us. Once we receive the MVR, you are notified within 24 hours. This time allows us to audit the MVR.
Note: Each state's monitoring process is different. Some will provide monthly updates regarding negative events while others provide daily updates (typically weekdays only). For a given state, you can find the monitoring update frequency here.
Do I still need to order annual MVRs if I have J. J. Keller's MVR Monitoring Service?
expand_moreexpand_lessGuidance issued by the FMCSA regarding §391.25 (Annual Inquiry and Review of Driving Record) indicates the use of an Employee Notification Systems (ENS) generally meets the requirements of §391.25, including those provided by a third-party.
The J. J. Keller® MVR Monitoring Service meets the FMCSA requirements for all states except Arizona, California, Connecticut, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maryland, New Hampshire, New Jersey, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Dakota and Texas. For these states, the J. J. Keller MVR Monitoring Service orders an annual MVR for any driver where the last prior MVR in their file is more than 11 months old. In addition, the following states require an annual MVR order as part of the monitoring process:
- California
- Maryland
- Michigan
