OSHA adjusts civil penalty amounts for 2025

The Department of Labor (DOL) recently announced a 2.6 percent increase in OSHA’s civil penalty amounts for 2025. Effective today, the maximum penalty amounts for serious and other-than-serious violations increase from $16,131 to $16,550 per violation. For willful or repeated violations, the maximum penalty increases from $161,323 to $165,514 per violation.
The increases are mandated each year by the Federal Civil Penalties Inflation Adjustment Act Improvements Act of 2015 which requires the DOL to annually adjust its civil monetary penalty levels for inflation no later than January 15 of each year.
