MA COVID-19 Emergency Paid Sick Leave ends 3/15/22

March 2, 2022

On March 1, 2022, the MA government indicated that the requirement to provide up to 40 hours of paid leave for COVID-19-related reasons will end March 15, 2022.

It was originally slated to end April 1, 2022, or when applicable funds were depleted, whichever came first. Under the Act Providing for Massachusetts COVID-19 Emergency Paid Sick Leave, which was enacted by the Legislature and signed by Governor Baker, effective May 28, 2021, employers were required to make paid leave time available to employees for COVID-related illnesses, quarantine, and vaccinations, and then may apply for reimbursement from the state.

The law was amended on September 29, 2021, to extend the duration of the program and to expand the reasons employees may take leave under the law.
