FMCSA requests comments on a state passenger vehicle inspection mandate
May 19, 2022
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has put out a request for comments on an advance notice of proposed rulemaking (ANPRM) that would require States to annually inspect passenger-carrying CMVs. The ANPRM was originally published in April of 2016, but the agency withdrew it a year later, saying that they didn’t have enough data to move forward.
Now, FMCSA is again requesting comments on the ANPRM to see if there is enough information available to move forward with rulemaking. The agency published a list of 41 questions to guide responders. The agency is hoping to gather information regarding existing State passenger-carrying vehicle inspection programs; inspection locations, facilities, and costs; and the establishment of uniform inspection guidelines.
Interested parties are invited to submit comments through June 9, 2022, at https://www.regulations.gov/docket/ FMCSA-2022-0079/document.
