Cal/OSHA proposes mandatory employer compliance with ANSI first aid kit standard

October 25, 2022

Cal/OSHA has proposed mandatory employer compliance with ANSI’s first aid kit standard, for both general industry and construction. While current regulations require first aid kits on site, the proposal specifies the kits be in a container suitable for conditions on the job site or vehicle per American National Standards Institute, Inc. (ANSI)/International Safety Equipment Association (ISEA) Z308.1, American National Standard for Minimum Requirements for Workplace First Aid Kits and Supplies, 2021 Edition.

The proposal includes requirements for:

  • Frequency of first aid kit inspection
  • Provisions for remote worksites and work vehicles
  • Minimum kit contents

The changes affect the state’s construction regulations at Title 8, Section 1512, and its general industry regulations at Title 8, Section 3400. The proposal’s comment period ends October 28, 2022.
