CVSA announces 2022 Safe Driver Week

March 31, 2022

Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) has announced that the 2022 Safe Driver Week will take place throughout North America on July 10-16. During this year’s Safe Driver Week, law enforcement officers will specifically be looking for drivers who are exhibiting signs of risky driving, including speeding, distraction, improper lane changes, tailgating, and impaired driving. Officers will be issuing citations or warnings to drivers who are stopped.

This announcement comes on the heels of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHSTA’s) 2020 traffic crash report, which shows that fatal crashes increased by 6.8 percent, resulting in the highest death toll on U.S. roadways since 2007. The report also revealed that crashes related to speeding increased by 17 percent.

Drivers and carriers will want to make sure they’re prepared for this year’s Safe Driver Week. Drivers who are speeding or otherwise exhibiting unsafe driving behaviors will not only face potential fines and citations, but carriers’ Compliance, Safety, Accountability (CSA) scores could be negatively impacted in the Unsafe Driving and/or Controlled Substances/ Alcohol categories if drivers are cited for violations such as speeding, reckless driving, or driving under the influence.

CVSA’s Operation Safe Driver Campaign was launched in 2007 in an effort to improve driving behaviors and reduce traffic crashes. Last year’s Safe Driver Week resulted in the issuance of 71,343 warnings and citations.
