Workplace safety the focus of National Safety Month

Raises awareness of the leading causes of preventable injuries and death

Posted June 7, 2024

Led by the National Safety Council (NSC), National Safety Month, observed each June, focuses on workplace safety. This year’s campaign raises awareness of the leading causes of preventable injuries and death in the workplace.

Preventable injuries are the third leading cause of death in the United States, with more than 227,000 lives lost in 2022. For nonfatal injuries, the numbers are even higher. Sixty-three million people sought medical attention for a work-related injury that same year. To combat these numbers and encourage safe work behaviors, each week of June focuses on a specific safety topic. These include:

  • Week 1: Safety engagement,
  • Week 2: Roadway safety,
  • Week 3: Risk reduction, and
  • Week 4: Slips, trips, and falls.
